TMC’s journey began in 2021 when TMC director, Mustaq Ahmad, launched Tommy Miah’s Chotpoti in Bethnal Green in London, Tommy Miah, MBE, came on board with Tommy Miah’s Chotpoti to launch the Tommy Miah’s Chotpoti Franchise in 2023. The partnership aimed high with a vision of an extraordinarily successful global TMC franchise model. Franchise expansion has been remarkable in 2023 (with 30 confirmed locations at this early stage)- and many more locations are in the pipeline as we move towards 2024.
The early success of TMC is founded on hard the work of Tommy and TMC directors. The TMC team (Tommy Miah, MBE; Mustaq Ahmed, Operations; Suhel Howlader, Design & Build) are putting in every effort to ensure the brightest future for the franchise.
Tommy’s four decades experience as an entrepreneur and high-profile celebrity chef has paved the way for this extraordinary TMC growth.

History of Tommy Miah, MBE
Tommy Miah’s achievements include:
- Delivering a curry lunch-box to 10 Downing Street for the then Prime Minister John Major’s 50th birthday
- Producing the world’s largest curry which was large enough to feed 10,000.
- Writing numerous cookery books for charity- including one with a foreword by the Duchess of York and another book with a foreword by HM Queen Elizabeth II
Tommy Miah’s 40 year plus career has included many landmark moments such as:
- 1980- Founding the award-winning Raj Restaurant in Edinburgh, UK.
- 1991- Founding the International Indian Chef of the Year Competition & Award topromote innovation and quality in Indian cooking. In 2017, the Guest of Honour at the awards finale was HRH The Princess Royal.
- 1993- Delivering a curry lunchbox to 10 Downing Street for the then Prime Minister John Major’s 50th birthday
- 2000- Founding ‘The Original Raj Hotel in Edinburgh’ – the UK’s first Indian themed hotel.
- 2002- Decades of publishing numerous cookery books for charity culminated in the publication of the ‘Favourite Recipes of the Raj’ cookery book in support of Cancer Research UK- which included a foreword by HM Queen Elizabeth II.
- 2005- Launching Tommy Miah’s Hospitality Management Institute to provide fullservice education and training programs designed specifically for the hospitality industry. Over 15,000 students have graduated since the launch.
- 2017- Tommy Miah was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the 2017 Birthday Honours for his services to the hospitality industry and charity.
Awards and recognition
In 2004, Mr. Miah was elected a fellow of Royal Society of Arts.
In 2017, Mr. Miah was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List for services to the hospitality industry and charity.
Tommy Miah continues to work for charities, both in Bangladesh and the UK, include Cancer Research UK, Shishu Polli (Sreepur Village), Centre for the Rehabilitation of the Paralysed (CRP) and ORBIS Flying Eye Hospital.
